<image:caption>Tobias Keene, D.D.S. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Tobias Keene brings a bit of unabashed Southern hospitality to all his patients. He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. When not striving to keep his patients happy and healthy, he’s enjoys hiking with his family in Rock Creek Park.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Wellness Services - Polarity</image:title>
<image:caption>Polarity Therapy is a combination of Western medicine and Ancient Eastern healing traditions. It is based on the work of Dr. Randolph Stone, an osteopath, chiropractor and naturopathic doctor who used his medical training of manipulating the structure and connecting with the craniosacral pulses and rhythm. However these systems alone did not provide sufficient answers to life and health and so he pursued Ayuveda and Chinese medicine to his process. Polarity is a modern synthesis of ancient teachings in a practical application. When you come in for a session we discuss your concerns, your goals, your intentions. Then through energy-based bodywork, therapeutic touch, a look at lifestyle habits including diet, exercise and self-awareness you can shift your energy, reframe your issues, and gather new tools to move through your life.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Wellness Services - Nutrition</image:title>
<image:caption>Food is the fuel that supplies our energy. Our diet provides the substances that grow and sustain life. In my training, I have studied Western nutrition and pharmacology along with Eastern nutrition and herbs. While I incorporate the necessity of the various dietary components, I also believe we must look at the whole person - the synergy of all aspects of of life. Since Chinese medicine examines the entire person, the consumption of whole foods, utilizing all aspects of plants and animals may be integrated into the healing process. The act of re-evaluating one's diet can create an overall shift in general health and lifestyle that has a profound effect on a person. For instance, weight loss, indigestion, osteoporosis, arthritis, and IBS are issues that can be altered by carefully evaluating and changing food and lifestyle. Health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, allergies and asthma can greatly be altered by food consumption and habits. There is an ancient Chinese proverb “let food be your medicine”. This requires understanding and mindful eating practices to restore health and become the person you want to be. Having worked with various digestive problems and other serious health issues, I am available for dietary consultation at my office, or online to achieve your goals.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About</image:title>
<image:caption>For the past 30 years I have focused on acquiring knowledge and insight to encourage and enable health and wellness for the people who touch my life. As a New York licensed acupuncturist and nationally certified herbalist my private practice in Manhattan is strongly influenced by my diverse background. I received my Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and my Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Over the past 10 years I have also studied Polarity Therapy, an energy medicine that combines components of Western structural medicine and Eastern ancient traditions. While the age-old sagacity of Chinese medicine and Polarity form the basis of my perceptions, the Sandlin technique, a Native American body practice, and numerous years of martial arts study have a profound effect on my style of helping the body to rehabilitate. In addition I am a certified personal trainer and instruct adults in physical fitness, including Tai Ji and Qigong. Additional study in Eastern and Western nutrition, acupuncture facial rejuvenation, and morphology are merged into my treatment approaches. My work is also deeply affected by my role as a mother of two children and the personal mastery of stress in the corporate world from my eighteen years as a video editor for NBC. No stranger to the challenges of balancing work and family responsibilities, I have a clear understanding of the ways in which stress expresses itself in our daily lives. I have discovered simple principles that often get lost in the rush of modern living, and see my role as a facilitator, a guide, through which ancient wisdom can creatively support the individual. Through physical treatment, careful listening and a gentle-hearted focus, I have witnessed individuals reclaim their health and become the generative source of balance in their own lives.</image:caption>
